This poem is in response to Victoria’s Blog Live to Write Today in which she offers the writing prompt “Endings.”
Midnight
It’s midnight.
The bell has tolled twelve times.
And my soul has wined and dined
In the elegance and the eloquence I thought was so divine.
But all that’s really left, my friend, is tasted, wasted, time.

Looks like I’m destined to see a doctor tomorrow…

I came up with it decades ago. Never even wrote it down. It’s just been rattling around in my head waiting for the right time to share it. I guess now was the right time…

Dear Lorna … Happy New Year 2012! I got cool shivers reading this poem, it journeys a lifetime, cheers catchul8r molly.

You feel better and thanks for the feedback on the weird post. Glad it wasn’t a hacker. Happy New Year.
Jan 01, 2012 @ 07:52:25
Thank you so much on both counts. I’m glad you stopped in and commented. I hope to see you again soon!

I pressed “Publish” by mistake (and prematurely) and then got rid of the post when I realized what I had done. I have a miserable head cold that I think is morphing into a sinus infection and I don’t feel like the sharpest crayon in the box. Sorry for any confusion.

Many thanks, my friend. I’m honored to be one of two among the multitudes of bloggers you know to received this award from you. I’ll do you proud (or do my best, at least)! 🙂

Thanks so much! It’s the tone that I like as well. Always have. I wrote it decades ago and never forgot it. Glad you stopped in and commented. Hope you come back! 🙂

I wrote this when I was so much younger and more melodramatic. I don’t feel any of my time is wasted now. The poem came to me a long time ago and has stayed with me though. It feels kind of like something Poe would’ve written.
As for catching up, worry not! I’m far behind as well. It’s so hard to stay current when you take even a day off, let alone a proper rest.

Yeah, I had a misfire–published something before it was ready. I have a miserable head cold, maybe sinus infection, and my wits have left the building. Sorry for any confusion. 😐

Congruatualtions on the award, and what a great poem. It is no small feat to get so much feeling and meaning into so few words.
Jan 01, 2012 @ 06:05:51
Thank you. I came up with it decades ago and it has always stayed in my head. To me, it sounds like something Edgar Allen Poe would’ve written. It seems to fit a News Years Eve post quite well.

Beautiful poem Lorna! Fits the current celebrations so well. Wish you a happy new year 🙂

Very apropos for the time, Lorna. I had the same experience that Victoria had today…clicked on what appeared to be a new posting and nothing was there…
I wish you well in the year ahead and look forward to many fun postings from you.
Hugs,
Gayle

You’ve managed to say a lot in few words, Lorna. So glad you linked this.
Is someone hijacking your blog or did you really do a post: Live2Write2Day? When I went to it, (it was in my e-mail) it didn’t make sense. It said Problem? And a few sentences about is this where you want to be? If it was you, maybe it’s just me not “getting it.”
